1 out of 3 Americans has prediabetes. Could continuous glucose monitors help? | Dr. Michael Snyder

Health No Comments »

Approximately one-third of the U.S. population has blood sugar levels in the prediabetic range, with the majority being unaware. Dr. Michael Snyder, recent guest of the podcast, maintains that closely tracking blood sugar levels, for example, with continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), can alert people when their levels reach prediabetic or diabetic ranges. Such knowledge can enable them to make crucial dietary and lifestyle modifications, including weight loss, exercise, and stress reduction, that can halt or reverse the progress to type 2 diabetes.

Continuous glucose monitors, or CGMs, are wearable devices that allow users to monitor their blood glucose levels through a tiny sensor placed under the skin. While they are a medical product, some consumer-oriented companies are making them available through a physician network, such as:

– January.ai* – https://january.ai/
– NutriSense.io – https://www.nutrisense.io/
– Levels Health – https://www.levelshealth.com/

The most common CGMs currently available, include DexCom and the FreeStyle Libre. More consumer-oriented CGMs are thought to be coming on the market soon:

The medical approach to diabetes is absolutely absurd. Type Two diabetes is the most preventable disease suffered and is usually reversible. Why is this not being emphasised – why not prevented, is it bacause diabetes is a cash machine?
